Dean Francis [Director]

Dean Francis is the director of over a dozen award-winning short films. He is a graduate of the Australian Film Television and Radio School Master of Arts Directing Program where he won the prize for Best Directed Drama.

Dean’s work has had over one hundred film festival screenings and his short film “Vermin” was nominated for an Australian Directors Guild Award. He is also an award-winning cinematographer and has credits as a producer in television and short films.

Michael Robertson [Producer]

Prodigy Movies is headed by Michael Robertson, a player in the Australian film industry since the 1980s as a writer, director and producer. A graduate of the University of New South Wales with postgraduate studies at the University of Southern California and member of the Screen Producers Association of Australia, he established the “cutting edge” tvcs production company, Prodigy and has won as a producer and director Cannes Lion, Mobius, One Show New York, WorldFest, CLIO, AWARD, MADC and ATV Awards.

Michael has directed three feature films – “The Best of Friends”, “Going Sane” and “Back of Beyond”. “Black Water” – directed by Andrew Traucki, was the first feature film produced by Prodigy Movies.  The second collaboration with Andrew, “The Reef” is currently in post-production and due for release late 2010.

Carl Robertson [Director of Photography]

Award winning cinematographer Carl Robertson has gained international recognition for his visually impressive photography. He has won over 60 Cinematography Awards, including 39 Awards from the Australian Cinematographers Society for artistic excellence in Film, Commercials, Music Videos and Documentary work. He also won the 2006 Kodak film school competition garnering the Best Cinematography Award in the Australasia region and was the runner up in the World region competition.

Carl started at Australian Broadcasting Corporation working firstly as a TV News cameraman. He then went on to photograph many international documentaries for the ABC. In 2003 he left the ABC to pursue a Master’s Degree in Cinematography at the prestigious Australian Film, Television and Radio School garnering the highly esteemed Cinematographer of the year award upon graduation. He received his ACS accreditation in 2008 from the Australian Cinematographers Society and was the youngest to be given ACS Accreditation at the age of 30.

‘Road Train’ is Carl’s first Feature film.
